TP-Link’s Tapo brand is widely recognized for making some of the best smart home security cameras out there, but their rapidly expanding lineup of robot vacuum cleaners deserves some serious attention. The Tapo RV50 Pro Omni is their latest flagship model, and it is clearly built around delivering a completely hands-off and low-maintenance cleaning experience.
In terms of design, the RV50 Pro Omni looks and feels incredibly premium. It adopts a sleek, matte black finish paired with semi-translucent water tanks that give it an expensive aesthetic. Despite housing a comprehensive all-in-one cleaning system, the base station is still surprisingly compact and fits neatly against a wall without dominating your living space.
This marks the first robot vacuum from Tapo to feature a proper, high-end mopping system. Tapo RV50 Pro Omni now utilizes dual rotating mop pads which clean much more effectively than the standard static cloth pads found on older models. Alongside this massive mopping upgrade, the vacuum also receives a brand new tangle-free brush system to heavily combat hair wrap.

Tapo RV50 Pro Omni Vacuum Feature
Let us first talk about the overall cleaning and suction performance. TP-Link has rated this model at a massive 15,000Pa, which is almost three times the suction power of the older Tapo RV30 Max Plus. This power increase is immediately noticeable, as even a single pass leaves the floor feeling entirely dust-free and thoroughly cleared of fine particulate matter.
However, the absolute biggest change is the way it handles hair, which was one of the primary complaints regarding previous models. For the RV50 Pro Omni, TP-Link adopted an innovative cutting brush technology that houses a built-in blade. This system activates after every cleaning job when the robot returns to the station, automatically cutting any tangled hair and sucking it directly into the dust bag. This function can also be triggered manually if needed.
In reality, this cutting mechanism works incredibly well. After a week of using it in a household with two kids who have waist-long hair, there was hardly any residual hair left on the brush. I fully expect even that tiny amount to be completely gone after a few more automated sessions. For households with pets, it handles fine animal fur just as easily, which is a true testament to the incredibly strong suction power working in tandem with the cutting blade.
To keep things maintenance-free, everything collected in the robot is automatically emptied into the large dust bag at the Omni station after every run. TP-Link claims this dust bag can last up to 60 days before needing a replacement. Emptying the internal bin frequently is great for the robot’s longevity, as dust does not clog the internal pathways, allowing the vacuum to consistently operate at its full suction capacity.
Mopping and Omni Station
This mopping function works exceptionally well, and I think it is one of the best I have ever tested. The station automatically pumps in detergent, resulting in a floor that is genuinely pleasant to walk on barefoot. There are no water marks or streaks left behind on my tiles and vinyl flooring. It also features TP-Link’s DeepEdge Adaptive Mopping, which means the roller pad actually extends outward to reach all the edges of the wall. When this robotic arm activates, it makes a futuristic mechanical noise, and it scrubs the corners very impressively due to the continuous rotation.
The true star of the show, however, is the mopping system. Unlike its predecessor which simply dragged a damp cloth, the RV50 Pro Omni features a serious upgrade with a rotating pad system. These thicker pads continuously scrub the floor as they rotate. The robot constantly wets the mop, and when the pads get dirty, it automatically returns to the station to wash them before resuming the cleaning job right where it left off.
To be completely honest, this system is perfectly suited for day-to-day cleaning and maintaining a grime-free floor, rather than relying on it to clean up massive, stubborn food stains. It can easily handle minor stickiness or dropped grains of rice, but it is not specifically designed for something like a major ketchup spill. For daily maintenance, however, it is extremely effective.
The Omni station itself received a massive upgrade to support this. After a cleaning job is finished, it uses fresh water to wash the mop pads, heating the water to 60 degrees Celsius for a much more efficient deep clean. Once the hot water scrub at the station is complete, the waste water is automatically discarded into a separate dirty water tank, and warm air is used to dry the pads quickly and hygienically.
Maintenance for this entire setup is very minimal. I find that the station cleans the mop pads so thoroughly that I never really need to get my hands dirty. In a smaller apartment of around 1,200 square feet with daily mopping scheduled, the clean water tank easily lasts a full week before requiring a refill. However, the waste water tank gets dirty quite quickly, so you might need to do a manual wash of the dirty tank once a month to maintain overall cleanliness and prevent odors.
The robot uses an integrated mop detergent system that slots right into the station beside the dust bag. This detergent cartridge is non-refillable, which means you must purchase new ones directly from TP-Link once it runs out. On the software side, the system is exceptionally intelligent; when you are only vacuuming and not using the mopping function, the station can automatically remove and leave the mopping pads behind. This is a rare feature not commonly found on many robot vacuums, and I think it is brilliant. Additionally, the waste tank is handled properly with a built-in anti-odor capsule to keep smells at bay.
Navigation and Mapping
Tapo robot vacuums have always been quite good at navigation, and the RV50 Pro Omni pushes this even further. It combines a 360-degree LiDAR scanner and multiple laser sensors to accurately navigate and detect obstacles. It works remarkably well with physical objects, easily avoiding small toys or clothes left scattered on the floor.
The system generates a highly accurate map of your home, allowing you to easily customize exactly where you want to clean or designate no-go zones, such as a baby’s play area or a pet feeding station. If you live in a multi-story house, the vacuum also supports multi-floor mapping, allowing you to save distinct maps for each level. Additionally, the software lets you completely customize your routine by setting a specific cleaning order for different rooms, ensuring the robot tackles high-traffic areas exactly how you prefer.
However, it still struggles to handle loose charging cables. If left out, cables will inevitably jam the robot’s brushes, so it is highly recommended to pick them up before starting a cleaning cycle. This is a common limitation, as most robot vacuums on the market still cannot perfectly avoid thin cables on the floor.
Tapo App Configuration
Setting up and controlling the robot through the Tapo app is a seamless experience, especially if you already have other Tapo smart home devices in your ecosystem. The robot mapped my layout incredibly fast and automatically generated virtual rooms. The interface is highly intuitive, allowing you to easily set no-go zones, create custom cleaning schedules, and precisely adjust the water flow levels for different rooms.
The app does a fantastic job of tracking the status of every function on the robot vacuum. It features a clean, highly visual interface that makes it easy to monitor the clean and dirty water levels inside the station at a glance. Furthermore, the system meticulously tracks the lifespan of all your hardware consumables, sending helpful prompts to let you know exactly when it is time to replace a filter or perform routine maintenance on the sensors.
There is a staggering amount of customization available at your fingertips. You can easily adjust the mop washing mode depending on how dirty your floors are, including toggling the 60-degree hot water washing on or off. The Omni dock itself offers deep personalization, allowing you to dictate the mop wash frequency, set exactly how long the warm air drying should run, schedule when the automatic hair-cutting brush activates, and control when the system dispenses detergent.
For smart home enthusiasts, the Tapo RV50 Pro Omni also includes Matter support, allowing you to integrate it seamlessly into third-party ecosystems. While the current Matter standard does not expose a massive amount of advanced robot vacuum controls just yet, it is a great future-proofing addition. Plus, TP-Link continuously improves the system over time, frequently pushing out firmware updates that refine the navigation and add new capabilities to the robot.
Closing Thoughts
The Tapo RV50 Pro Omni is a phenomenal leap forward for TP-Link’s floorcare lineup, and above all else, it simply cleans really well. The combination of the massive 15,000Pa suction power and the highly effective hair-cutting brush ensures your floors are left genuinely spotless. Whether you are dealing with fine dust or long hair, the vacuum handles it effortlessly and keeps its own brush roll completely clear.
Furthermore, it is a really smart machine that takes the hassle out of daily maintenance. The upgraded LiDAR and camera-based navigation allow it to gracefully maneuver around everyday obstacles without getting stuck. I also love the intelligent software features, like how it automatically detaches and leaves its mop pads behind at the station when performing a vacuum-only run, making the entire process feel incredibly seamless.
The most significant selling point, however, is that the new mopping system is a massive upgrade over previous Tapo models. Moving from a basic dragging cloth to extending, dual rotating pads with 60-degree hot water washing completely transforms this device into a serious floorcare solution. For anyone looking to invest in a high-end robot vacuum that handles both deep vacuuming and daily mopping with absolute minimal maintenance, the Tapo RV50 Pro Omni is an outstanding choice.
